Travel arrangements
Outward flight: Flight
- Icelandair F1495 at 12:35 to KEFLAVIK arrives 15:10
Inward flight: Flight
- Icelandair F1440 at 08:00 to MANCHESTER arrives 10:35
The coach will leave the Botanical Gardens at 08:00 on Friday
17th February 2017. You will therefore
need to arrive at the Botanical Gardens 15 minutes before this time at 07:45.
Arrival back at the Botanical Gardens on Tuesday will depend
on flight times and therefore it will be best to have a mobile phone to ring
parents and advise them of progress. We expect to be back at the Botanical
Gardens for approximately 13:30.
You must ensure that you have your passport, currency, any
credit cards, your EHIC and personal insurance policy (should you have decided
to take any additional insurance) in your hand luggage. I would recommend that
you travel in clothes suitable for fieldwork - warm waterproof clothing
including boots because it may be cold / wet on arrival, also wearing the items
cuts down on weight and space in your luggage. Remember that if you are going
to carry any liquids, e.g. shampoo, in your hand luggage they must be of
restricted amount and be presented in a clear plastic bag or they will be
confiscated.
We are going straight to the blue lagoon when we get to
Iceland so please make sure that your swimwear and towel is packed in your hand
luggage.
Icelandair Luggage
restrictions
All passengers starting their journey at a UK airport and
those transferring from international flights at a UK airport will be required
to meet the following requirements:
1) Cabin
Baggage
ONE item only of cabin baggage will be permitted through the
airport security search point, the dimensions of this item must not exceed: a maximum
length of 55 cm, width of 35 cm and depth of 25 cm (21x14x10 inches), including
wheels, handles, side pockets etc. with a maximum weight of 6 kg. NB. You must be able to lift your bag unaided
into the aircraft overhead locker. Laptops/data projectors/handbags should be
put within this one piece of hand luggage.
Check on line for the prohibited items.
In addition to this, you can bring on board a coat, a
camera, binoculars, reading material, and a shopping bag with tax-free items.
All items carried by passengers will be x-ray screened.
Hold Luggage
Baggage in Hold: Each passenger is allowed to check in, free
of charge, baggage weighing no more than 20kg* (44lbs).
Liquids
While packing
You are only allowed to take small quantities of liquids in
your hand baggage.
These liquids must be in individual containers with a
maximum capacity of 100 ml each.
You must pack these containers in one transparent,
re-sealable plastic bag measuring approximately 20 x 20 cms (they are very
fussy about this).
At the airport
To help screeners detect liquids, you must:
present all liquids carried to the screeners at security
checkpoints for examination
remove laptop computers and other large electrical devices
from your hand baggage. They will be screened separately whilst you are
screened.
Liquids include:
contents of pressurised containers, including shaving foam,
other foams
water and other drinks, soups, syrups and deodorants, creams, lotions and oils, pastes, including toothpaste, perfumes, liquid-solid mixtures, sprays, mascara, gels, including hair and shower gels; any other item of similar consistency
Note!
Medical and toilet articles in small quantities which are
necessary for the passenger during the journey, such as hair spray, perfumes
and medicines containing alcohol, may be carried without prior approval but
should be in a clear sealable bag.
NB Travelling in
your walking boots will reduce weight in your suitcase. You may need your waterproof immediately so
also wear/keep them at hand during the journey, it may also be cold so have
layers including hats, gloves and scarves which you can add.
